Mark Fontes
Mark Fontes joined the news team at WZBN in March, 2008. He has covered stories ranging from shootings and fires to the suicide of suspected post-9/11 anthrax mailer, Bruce Ivins.
In February, 2010, he became the station's sports anchor and has been loving it ever since. He covers Princeton and Rider University's teams, Trenton Thunder baseball, Trenton Titans hockey, as well as all Central NJ high school programs, and in the summertime, little league baseball tournaments.
"NJ & Mark...perfect together," Fontes says. "I went to school in the northeast years ago, and must say, it's a great fit for me."
His move to the Garden State followed a more than four year stint in California, where Mark was the anchor at WealthTV. Before then, he reported for KTRV in Boise, Idaho. There, former Governor Dirk Kempthorne's press secretary, Mark Snyder, once described Fontes as the "hardest working man in television." Fontes' experience with the spud state began after graduating with honors from St. John's University (NY) in May, 2002.
Here at Suite 101, Mark's specialization is again, sports. He has traveled the country covering regular and postseason WNBA, NFL and MLB action. Andy Pettitte, Derek Jeter, Ed Reed, Lauren Jackson and Lisa Leslie are among the many athletes he's interviewed. Mark has also contributed Suite 101 articles on softer material like speed dating and newly-opened sushi bars.
Prior to Suite 101, Mark's stories appeared on websites such as ElevationMag.com. There he covered WNBA and NCAA games, as well as the now famous incident between shock jock Don Imus and the Rutgers womens' basketball team.
Mark lives in Mercer County, NJ and enjoys biking, swimming, bowling, traveling, and 80's music (Human League is his favorite). He also enjoys working with animals and underprivileged people when possible.
